After the baby is born, most of the time is in sleep every day. During the day, the mother can check the baby's condition at any time, but at night, if there is no light, it will greatly increase the difficulty for the mother to take care of the baby. Turn on the light, not only Getting in and out of bed is too tossing, and beware of too much action and too bright lights to wake up the baby. Don’t turn on the lights. In the dark, you can only rely on "touching" to judge whether the baby is hungry, peeing, or kicking the quilt, which affects the mother’s judgment. Said that if you don't pay attention, you will still wake your baby.

At this time, a small night light has played a big role. The dim light can help mothers deal with the baby's needs in time, so as not to make mothers mess around in the dark and save mothers much trouble. But regarding the small night light, there are too many arguments against it, and mothers inevitably wonder: can the baby turn on the night light when it is sleeping? Will it affect the baby's development? How can we use the night light scientifically?

1. Can the night light be used?

When a baby is just born, it is inevitable to breastfeed and change diapers at night. But after the baby is asleep, if the eyes are opened, the headlights will be dazzling light, which can easily stimulate the baby's eyes, affect the baby to fall asleep again, and increase the difficulty of sleeping. At this time, the use of the night light will allow the mother to respond to the baby's needs more quickly and accurately.

The "American Academy of Pediatrics Parenting Encyclopedia" clearly recommends:

The night light makes it easier for you to check your baby's condition, and it can also make your baby feel safe when he wakes up at night.

Canadian Academy of Pediatrics

It is also mentioned in the advice on infant sleep:

Keep the bedroom quiet, comfortable, and suitable, dim lighting while the baby is sleeping.

Therefore, the night light with soft light is a very important parenting tool for baby.

2. The "misunderstanding" of the small night light in recent years

1. Using night light affects baby's growth and development?

The baby secretes growth hormone during sleep, and the light will make the baby's growth hormone drop, affecting the baby's growth and development.

The secretion of growth hormone is closely related to the baby's sleep quality. As long as the baby has enough sleep and the sleep quality is good, the baby's growth hormone will not drop due to the light. Compared with lights, factors such as baby's nutritional status, growth environment, and sleep patterns are important factors that affect baby's growth and development.

2. Using night lights will cause precocious puberty?

Many people worry that the secretion of melatonin reaches its peak in the dark environment at night. If it is exposed to light, its secretion will be inhibited. The reduction of melatonin will affect the secretion of ***** hormones, so everyone is worried that turning on the night light will cause precocious puberty in children.

For newborn babies, the rhythm of melatonin secretion is not obvious. The concentration of melatonin secretion is similar during the day and night. As the baby grows up, the day and night changes of melatonin will gradually become obvious. Although artificial light sources have a certain effect on the secretion of melatonin,

Studies have found that the diurnal regulation of the neonatal intensive care unit has no significant effect on the secretion of neonatal melatonin.

The etiology of precocious puberty in children is more complicated, and nutrition, genes, environment, etc. are all affected. It is not a single factor that dominates. Simply saying that the small night light causes precocious puberty in babies is a bit exaggerating the effect of light.

3. The small night light will turn the baby's day and night upside down and affect the baby's sleep?

Many mothers worry that the light at night will make the baby confused between day and night, affect the baby's sleep, and cause the baby to sleep during the day and at night.

For small-month-old babies, there is no regularity in sleep except for eating and sleeping. Whether it is a bright day or a dark night, the sleep time is unambiguous, and the night light will not affect the baby’s sleep, but the dim light It will make babies who wake up at night feel more secure.

As the baby grows up, it will gradually form the baby’s own sleep pattern. When the baby is weaned at night and forms a regular sleep, the use of the night light can be gradually reduced, and if the baby has day and night reverse, we should pay more attention It is to adjust the baby's living habits and cultivate the baby's good routine.

4. The night light will affect the baby's vision development

Infancy is a critical period for the baby’s vision development, so we always worry that the night light will burden the baby’s eyes, stimulate the baby’s eyes, and affect the baby’s vision development.

Direct exposure to high-brightness lights in the dark, even for a short period of time, is more likely to irritate the baby’s eyes, while the light of the night light is relatively weak, and its brightness is only one-twentieth of that of ordinary light bulbs, which is only equivalent to The brightness of the moon at full moon, as long as it does not directly face the baby's eyes, the impact on the baby is negligible.

3. How to use the night light reasonably?

1. It is recommended to use a night light with warm colors, low power and soft light.

2. When using, you can place the night light far away, don't put it on the baby's bedside, and avoid direct shooting into the baby's eyes.

3. Reasonably arrange the use time of the night light. During the newborn period, it is easy to choke and irritate milk due to frequent feedings. It can be used all night to facilitate the observation of the baby's situation. As the baby's regular work and rest are formed, the night light can be gradually reduced usage of.

4. Use it reasonably according to the baby's needs. If the baby cannot accept the light, you can stop it immediately, and if the baby needs a light source for sleep, don't mind too much.

5. Pay attention to cultivating your baby's work and rest patterns and good sleeping habits.

The night light is not a "flood beast". For mothers, as long as they are used reasonably, the night light can play an important role in parenting.

Yes, I do. Not because I am afraid of the dark. I do it because if I awaken in the middle of the night I can easily get to the bathroom without turning on any other lights. It’s also nice for those times when you awaken from a very surreal dream, it can help you acclimate yourself to where you really are. Some dreams can seem so very real and can be alarming, I find this to be very helpful.

I have small plug in night lights in every room in my home. There are times I find it helpful for those times I get up in the middle of the night for a drink or to check on a strange noise I hear. Again, I find this very helpful, as I needn’t turn on any other lights. I find when I have had to turn on that brighter light, it takes longer for my eyes to adjust to the brightness, is a bit of a whoa, “That’s bright!! moment, also takes me a bit longer to fall back to sleep after I’ve subjected myself to bright lights.

I also find that if I happen to have house guests, they too appreciate the night lights throughout the home. They will thank you for not having to struggle to find their way to the bathroom in the middle of the night. And I am very happy to recommend the night light I am using.
